Purpose
HONORING VERNITA
In 2019, I lost my sister Vernita Valentine to suicide. She was only 53, and had battled clinical depression for most of her adult life. While growing up in The Bronx, we shared a bunk bed, and Vernita would often climb down from the top bunk and get into my bed. I remember one Christmas Eve, we stayed awake looking through a store catalog, picking out the toys we wanted as well as the frilly lace canopy beds; a yellow one for her, and a pink one for me. Although our tastes in beds and favorite colors would change in later years, our love for home decor remained.
We often shopped together and were always drawn to the decorative pillows; accessories that can change the look of a space with minimal cost and effort. Vernita favored natural fiber fabrics and materials, and so do I. I believe this preference was influenced by the time we spent exploring and enjoying nature with our family during summer vacations at our Grandparents' farm.
Vernita held a master's degree in Social Work from New York University and was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She helped many people throughout her career with mental health struggles that mirrored her own. To honor Vernita and continue that legacy, V. Valentine Designs donates 15% of profits to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and organizations that support mental illness awareness. Our pillows have purpose. We want to save and improve lives one pillow at a time.
Thank you for visiting and shopping with V. Valentine Designs. I appreciate your business and support.
Sincerely,
Vicky
